About

If you want to experience Appalachian old-time square dancing in Columbus, Ohio, Wild Goose Creative (2491 Summit St) is the place to be every first Friday of the month.

Doors open at 7:00 pm, for an open old-time jam and community potluck dinner. Dances begin at 8:00 pm and go until about 10:30.

Every month features a live band and caller.

Dance bands vary from month to month, but are formed with some of the best dance fiddlers in central Ohio and sometimes special guests from the tri-state area and beyond.

Regular callers include Sean Fen, Sam Sharkey and Sean Strohmann with guest callers also appearing from time to time.

Check out our upcoming dances to see who is playing and calling in the coming months.

No experience or partner necessary! All dance are taught and accessible for dancers of all abilities.

There is typically a $10 suggested donation at the door so we can cover the cost of the space and pay our hard-working musicians and callers fairly. We don’t want cost to be a deterrent though, so if you’re interested in checking out the dance we encourage you to do so regardless of your ability to pay.

Come as you are! All are welcome!

History

Beginning in the fall of 2015, Square Dance Columbus began holding dances at the Vanderelli room, which is presently a staple art gallery and creative space in Franklinton.  Owner Alicia Vanderelli generously donated the space to foster the growth of the event. The first dance was held in October, and as many as five sets were on the floor for some of the dances. For two seasons the dance was occurring on a monthly basis at The Rambling House every 3rd Monday. The dance has since outgrown that space and has moved to a new location.

Currently the dance is held every First Friday at Wild Goose Creative located at 2491 Summit St, Columbus, OH 43202.

Be sure to follow the Square Dance Columbus Facebook page to receive notices of when the next square dance will be.
